Celebrating Commitment: Orchid Development Honours Over 190 Years of Service

On Thursday, 12 March, Orchid Development hosted its inaugural Milestone Awards at The Wicket, bringing colleagues together to recognise loyalty, dedication, and the people who shape our organisation.

Held in a relaxed outdoor setting, the event marked an important first for Orchid—celebrating tenure while honouring the collective contribution of our team. With music, refreshments, and a welcoming atmosphere, the evening reflected the strong sense of community at Orchid Development.

Recognising Exceptional Service

A total of 16 employees were honoured, representing more than 190 years of combined service—a testament to commitment and continuity.
Special recognition was given to seven team members with over a decade of continuous service:

  • Barrington Griffiths, Maintenance Supervisor (28 years)
  • Dean Max, Consultant, Brasserie (21 years)
  • Levi Chambers, Mason (19 years)
  • Artemio Lopez, Head Chef (15 years)
  • Aide Davila Zarate, Culinary Gardener (13 years)
  • Elizabeth Rollorata, Food & Beverage Server (10 years)
  • Tommy Tiempo, Lead Cook / Chef de Partie (10 years)

Barrington Griffiths, Orchid’s longest-serving employee, was recognised for his outstanding 28 years of service.
Several additional team members were also honoured for their combined years of service, having returned to continue their careers with Orchid.

Craftsmanship Meets Recognition

Each honouree received a custom, locally crafted wooden plaque featuring symbols drawn from Cayman’s flora and fauna; including the blue iguana, banana orchid and southern stingray, representing resilience, heritage and local pride.

A Memorable Evening

The event was opened and hosted by senior leadership, with remarks emphasising the importance of recognising long-standing contributions. A highlight of the evening was King Flowers’ tribute to Barrington Griffiths, acknowledging his exceptional tenure.

A slideshow of team memories played throughout, celebrating not only years of service but shared experiences. In touching moments, Chef Artemio Lopez accepted an award on behalf of Dean Max, while Rey Rollorata accepted for Elizabeth Rollorata.

A Culture Worth Celebrating

The evening reinforced a simple truth: Orchid Development is built on its people.
As one leader noted:

“The strength of Orchid lies in the dedication of our team. Tonight is about celebrating the individuals who make Orchid what it is.”

The event concluded with thanks to the HR team for delivering a thoughtful and memorable inaugural celebration.
